An 18-year-old female client presents to her primary healthcare provider complaining of dry, itchy skin to elbows, knees, lower back, buttocks, and scalp, which has been gradually increasing for the past 6 to 9 months. Slight pain with itching. She tells the nurse that she came to see the primary healthcare provider because summer is nearing, and she is too self-conscious of her skin to wear shorts or short sleeves. She reports having applied lotion to these areas, which has not helped. No other attempted medication treatment. She had chicken pox as a child; otherwise, she is fully vaccinated, denies other personal medical history or family history, and comments that her mother also wears long sleeves and pants a lot. She denies nail biting or use of artificial nails. She is on the track team, reporting that practices started 1.5 months ago. She is sexually active, 2 partners in the past, none in the last 1 year. She reports having used condoms. She traveled to Colorado for a week-long skiing trip 3 months ago.
