Many factors affect rehabilitation potential including age, educational background, prior work history, functional limitations, and motivation to work. Though not always immediate, most recovering substance abusers are able to return to productive employment. Factors likely to affect the potential for effective participation in vocational rehabilitation include:
a-commitment to maintaining sobriety length of sobriety and active participation in a recovery program
b-residual functional limitations (physical, cognitive, and emotional) resulting from the alcoholism and other chronic conditions history of relapses and their frequency
