The rate of unemployment is increasing exponentially in the rural and urban areas of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The issue of unemployment is posing a serious threat to the economic and human development of the country. The Government needs to take drastic measures to address unemployment levels in the country by creating employment opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of their gender, educational level and region they come from so that they can contribute positively to nation building. One of the ways that the Government can help minimize unemployment is to engage the PNG citizens to participate in Australia's Seasonal Worker Program (SWP). The Government should provide free passports and overseas work permits for Papua New Guineans to access employment opportunities in Australia to expand the employment base of the country.
