During his lifetime, Beethoven composed pieces that were perceived as patriotic. Much later, during World War II, both the Axis and Allied powers used Beethoven’s music for moral support. Indeed, Allied forces sometimes described the Fifth Symphony as the "Victory Symphony." Should music be used for political purposes? Why or why not?
