An inventor claims to have created a desuperheater device that can produce saturated vapor at
its exit, by taking in liquid water and superheated vapor through its two inlets as shown in the
figure below.
Assuming steady state operation and no external work done, ignoring heat transfer, ignoring
kinetic and potential energy effects.
a) Find mass flow rate at inlet 2 and exit
b) Find the entropy production rate within the device
c) Evaluate whether the inventor’s claim of this device is possible. Explain why you reached
the conclusion about the possibility of the invention.
