Practice on Embedding Quotations
The following excerpts come from John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.
"I ought to have shot that dog myself.,George, I shouldn't ought to have let no stranger shoot my dog" (Steinbeck 27).
Embed the quote using each of the four different types of integrating quotes:
1. Introduce the quote (use a complete sentence and a colon):
2. Use an introductory or explanatory phrase (followed by a comma):
3. Make the quote part of your own sentence (no punctuation):
4. Use short quotes as part of your own sentence:
