Write a response to this discussion post from a peer The problem I have chosen to examine is the continual increase in diversity in the classroom without the appropriate training to create a well-rounded, student-centered learning experience. This led to the question, are educators, both current and future, being equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to promote diversity, cultural awareness, and shared respect within their classrooms? This problem should be handled first by government agencies that oversee the requirements of future educators. To create a solution to this issue, these agencies should require more diversity training, cultural awareness classes, and education classes tailored to fit the needs of diversity in a classroom. While I think this solution should start at the government level, I also believe that private organizations like colleges and individual districts should be free to implement these inclusive practices in ways that make sense for them. This could mean that colleges get to select what courses are offered and require education students to select from the options. It could also mean that districts must provide diversity training professional development opportunities a certain number of times yearly. By requiring colleges and districts to offer training and
