Respond to this as an Jamaican citizen
This one is tricky, should it be? The current Jamaican monarch and head of state currently is King Charles III. However, Jamaica was granted independence 1962 but still ..... under the Jamaica Independence Act 1962 the head of state is Charles III. So for Mark Golding to have dual citizenship by been Jamaican at birth and been British by parents is quite legal according to the constitution. There's nothing illegal about that. With that said..... Should he renounce his citizenship? Some will argue that if we are thinking of removing King Charles as head of state then this would be a good start for Mark Golding to renounce his British citizenship. However, others will argue that it is quite okay for him to be the Prime Minister of Jamaica even with his British citizenship under the present setup. Mark Golding does not have to renounce his citizenship until there is a change in the constitution that would make it illegal for him to have dual citizenship. This is a distraction and we should see it as that It is trying to punish a man even when he is not wrong or blaming
