"When it comes to the use of official crime data, we have to remember that they are critically important due to numerous reasons. Reasons include the use of accuracy and reliability of where the data is collected. These are usually maintained by law enforcement agencies. The use of policy making is another reason that official crime data can be collected. While the use of official crime data has a wide variety of benefits, it's important for to understand that it comes with a stature of limitations. That's where the issues come at fault when using official crime data. Underreporting, biases in law enforcement agencies, unpredictabilities in data collecting methods are all the small factors that tend to affect the use of validity and entirety of the data being collected. Researching this particular topic, the general public need to understand that "the first problem with understanding crime is that measuring it is harder than it sounds" (Hutson, 2020).
