April 30, 1941 Dear Diary, Things are certainly changing in a hurry. Most people speak German in my village, and here in Yugoslavia, we’ve made a good life. Now, the German army is here. Some of the people in town welcomed them, mostly the few Nazis in our town and those dissatisfied with the government in Belgrade. The soldiers are telling the men in town that they should join the struggle against the Allies and once again become part of the German Volk. I don't know what to think. It’s all happening so fast! My big brother Hans now has to join a new local branch of the Hitler Youth. Lots of people are saying things are going to change. I hope not. I like our village just the way it i
