For the federal government every 2 years Americans are able to vote for Congressmen and women to become members of the House of Representatives for their district. Depending on the size and population of a state there are many districts. Also every 6 years citizens are able to vote for their state senators. Every state has 2 senators regardless of size or population. In addition to this every 4 years citizens vote for the President. It is through a process of regular democratic elections that U.S. citizens choose federal, state, and local government representatives.
