How did the rise of mass consumption impact life for American women—especially middle-class urban women?

Women became active outside the house, whether it be sports, such as cycling, tennis, and croquet, or jobs. The jobs they'd have were jobs like sales clerks in department stores, and waitresses in restaurants.
Women gained opportunities to do assorted jobs that only men once did. But everyone gained weight too.
Yeah I know but the two are intertwined.
Hope this helps!
