In the Tet offensive, there was a major country wide attack on South Vietnam that shocked the U.S/South Vietnam and its allies. The U.S thought that the war was coming to a close and that they were winning but they thought that the Vietcong were ill equipped and had little numbers but the offensive proved otherwise. This was a reason among many why the war became unpopular among U.S citizens because there was a high death ratio, a draft, a lot of money spent and the U.S wasn't finishing the war up so the people thought that they were being lied to. So even though the Tet offensive was costly for the Vietcong, it ultimately worked in their favor showing the world their power and reach.
