Throughout history specifically in the 19th century European powers and China had conflictual relationships specifically in regards to trade. The European powers like Great Britain wanted China to be open to European trade, however, China did not seek the same. Through conflict and economic measures, European powers came to dominate Chinese economic policy which was seen as foreign interventionism and imperialism.
