The case that was made historically was that Native Americans had to be relocated so that the land could be appropriated or taken to be used for what was determined to be a more legitimate use. Also those who supported this policy argued that the Native Americans could maintain their way of life within reservations which would protect their culture and way of life. However, it is difficult to make an argument for the forced removal of Native Americans or any other peoples in the world from their land, because today this is considered ethnic cleansing which is a war crime and a crime against humanity and is protected in numerous aspects of international law.
