In a litter of kittens, some of the kittens have coloring that is completely different from their parents. What is the explanation for this

Answer :

If the genetic DNAs crosses path with each other, any colour could be made, or breed. For example, my cat is a Siamese yet its mother was a tabby and its father a ginger.
There are dominent and recessive trait that parents each have. If the brown fur color is a dominent trait and white fur is a recessive trait, then the kittens will most likely have brown fur. However, sometimes the kitten will have white fur or even a totally different color because of the parents of the kittens parents. Hope that made sense.
