Most European colonies in Africa achieved their independence peacefully, with little violence. During World War II, African soldiers were conscripted into the imperialist militaries, they though that they would be more respected. President Roosevelt, while discussing post-war world, added a provision of autonomy of imperial colonies. So independence came through negotiations. In 1960, 17 countries became independent.
