AP US History question:
In 1945, Winston Churchill said that the United States stood at the summit of the world. Discuss the developments in the thirty years following Churchill’s speech which called the global preeminence of the United States into question.

Answer :

When Churchill said that the "United States stood at the summit of the world" he didn't know the extent to which the USSR would rise as a dominant super power. The US's safety and prosperity was at risk due to the Cold War more than anyone had anticipated in 1945.
