plz help me .. I am really stumped!!!!!!! part of the set for a play is a big triangular piece of plywood. the area of the triangle is 20 square feet. the base is 3 feet longer than the height. what is the height of the triangle? round your answer to the nearest tenth of a foot. s it.........

f. 3 feet
g. 3.2 feet
h. 3.9 feet
j. 5 feet

Answer :

the way to find the area of a triangle is A=[tex] \frac{B*H}{2} [/tex]
if the base is 3 feet longer then the height we can write it like this B=H+3

now we can add it to our area equation
20=[tex] \frac{H(H+3)}{2} [/tex]
20=[tex] \frac{ h^{2} +3h}{2} [/tex]
40=[tex] H^{2} [/tex]+3H
10[tex] \frac{1}{3} [/tex]=[tex] H^{2} [/tex]
h=3.2ft
