Answer :

Politics has a big influence on laws and on current governing of the country, which in turn affects the lives of people. If e.g. a party is against a certain right, such as a right for universal free education,  and if this party is in power and makes their preference visible in law, this will mean that the people will not have access to free education. Same for gay marriage, the right for maternal and paternal leave- all of them get decided by politicians and influence the lives of people.
