The primary reason why the Articles o Confederation were adopted were because states were very much independent and didn't want a central power controlling them. This became unsustainable however when it came time to pay back war debts. Then came the Constitution.

The Articles of the Confederation are what established the name " The United States of America" and was replaced by the Constitution. this probably is what lead to the civil war, but I just want to know why it isn't considered a superior document to the Constitution.

The legislative body was responsible for writing the laws, the executive enforcing them and serving other purposes, and the judicial reviewing them.

The Three-Fifths Compromise was a compromise between Southern and Northern states reached during the Philadelphia Convention of 1787 in which three-fifths of the enumerated population of slaves would be counted for representation purposes regarding both the distribution of taxes and the apportionment of the members of the United States House of Representatives. It was proposed by delegates James Wilson and Roger Sherman.  

This compromised had a big effect on pre-Civil War political affairs because the disproportionate representation of slaveholding states relative to voters. So this compromise was best for the Southern states.
