#### Introduction
The era of industrialization in the late 1800s saw the introduction of numerous innovations in technology, transportation, and manufacturing that transformed the way Americans lived and worked.

Up to the mid- to late 1800s, American families made their own goods, grew their own food, wrote letters, and typically did not travel long distances. Manufacturers relied on labor-intensive and time-consuming processes, making goods beyond the reach of much of the public.

During the Market Revolution and Industrialization, the United States transitioned from a largely agrarian society to an industrialized nation, with more people living in cities.
