The owner should add 3 more nonfiction books in order to keep the ratio of 2 fiction books, to 1 nonfiction books. Would leave a total of 12 nonfiction and 24 fiction, and a total of 36 books.

6 + 18 = 24

Set up a proportion:

9/18 = x/24

Multiply 24 to both sides:

x = 24 * 9/18

x = 216/18

x = 12
