Assignment Instructions
Choose a beat that you would like to have on your local newspaper. Assign yourself a story to write and produce
with one accompanying photograph. Talk to at least two people who you don't know, include several quotes, facts,
a good lead and a strong kicker.
You will gather and organize information, write a draft, and review and polish your work over the next several
lessons. Your
beat news story is due on the final day of this unit. Be sure to review the News Story Grading
Rubric in course resources so
you understand how your work will be evaluated.
Type your name and the date at the top of this page. Type or paste your draft into this document. Be sure that
your draft is double-spaced,
12-point Times New Roman font and 1-2 pages. Save the file as follows:

A good lead should be attention-grabbing and summarize the main point of your article. 6. **Create a Strong Kicker:** End your article with a strong closing that leaves a lasting impression on the reader. This could be a thought-provoking quote, a call to action, or a summary of the key takeaway from your story. 7. **Include an Accompanying Photograph:** Choose a relevant and high-quality photograph that complements your story. Ensure that the image adds value to the article and engages the reader visually. 8. **Review and Polish Your Work:** After drafting your news story, review it for accuracy, clarity, and coherence. Edit for grammar and spelling errors, and make sure your writing flows smoothly.
